Mykonos - Helga Stentzel

I have a passion for exploring architectural features of various locations and uncovering faces and characters within them. Some places make this pursuit pointless though, proudly showcasing their own creativity. Take Mykonos with its distinctive chapels and towers that I photographed last year: the building in picture 3 resembles a bear so closely that as an artist, I almost feel there’s nothing left for me to add! And as you can imagine, it is even more disappointing when you’ve just single handedly hauled a heavy suitcase full of special clothes, pegs and clotheslines down the narrow streets of a Greek island. Thankfully, the famous mills were just around the corner and all my props came in handy :) There’s no better place for laundry art than the Mediterranean, and I can’t wait to explore Barcelona and Cyprus later in August. She's the kind of soul mate you’d love to spend time with-- smooth, wise and oh, so sweet! Not one for endless chatting, she will happily relax with you and let you be you. Smooothie chooses not to be fenced in, but to savour life in the crisp mountain air, because... Well, life is free and so is she!

Hang on! - Helga Stentzel

This polar bear used to be at the top of the Arctic food chain, but now even she has a predator - climate change. She is a mother and a fighter, wrapping her furry arms around her precious cubs, and hanging onto her beloved homeland as it slowly melts away. She is adapting and she won't give in, even if her world changes so fast. Maybe we can adapt too? Plant a tree, cycle to work, donate to charity. It's just an ice way to help!

This artwork is actually a manual on how to become a paleontologist: Step 1: Buy a pair of shorts, a pair of tights and loads of socks - all in white. Step 2: Wash all items from Step 1 Step 3: Arrange all items on a clothing line in the shape of the dinosaur of your choice. Step 4: Come up with a name for your newly discovered species. Step 5: Repeat steps 3 - 5 as many times as you want

I've always been a huge fan of London Underground. Its history, the role it played in the life of Londoners during the Second World War, the mysteries of abandoned stations - those stories of the past have always interested me. The Underground's present is fascinating in a different way: its functionality, design and dedication to art inspire me on a daily basis, and this artwork was my way to support Transport for London during the pandemic.
