Dietmar Gross, who has been a member of the German Specialist Association for Realism since 1999, creates mutant beings in his studies that are related to an old world of motifs and that are deliberately transferred to a modern, contemporary context. The main actors in the artist's works are fantastic beings, which are alienated and sometimes ironically portrayed. The painted animals or people with their abnormal appearance, however, in no way seem repulsive or even scary to the viewer. They are in the focus of the picture and rather present themselves very naturally and confidently in front of the usually simple picture background. Gross' images act as a stage for his imagination. In an almost fascinating, old master painting technique, he proceeds from past image traditions and combines themes of mythology, fables, legends and magical, invented creatures with contemporary subjects .
