My oil paintings depict ethnic minorities in northern Vietnam.
This exhibition presents the oil paintings of Thuan Le Cu, dedicated to the vibrant cultures of the ethnic minorities living in the highlands of Northern Vietnam. Each canvas is more than a visual record; it is a dialogue between tradition and modernity, between memory and artistic expression. The works portray daily life, rituals, costumes, and landscapes of the mountain communities, capturing the essence of their resilience and beauty. By focusing on the highland cultures, the exhibition highlights a world often overlooked in mainstream art, yet rich with stories, colors, and human warmth. Technically, the paintings are created using the classical multi-layer oil technique. This method, rooted in centuries of European tradition, involves building up the image through successive layers of translucent and opaque paint. The result is a depth of color, texture, and luminosity that allows the viewer to feel the atmosphere of misty mountains, the vibrancy of woven fabrics, and the dignity of human faces.
